Concept of the dual study program
At TUHH you can take part in the dual@TUHH program, which combines full-time university study with practical on-the-job training at one of our partner companies. The academic component is demanding and equivalent to a conventional engineering or technology degree: you must be ready for rigorous coursework, project work and a tight schedule. The practical phases are not internships but integral parts of the study program, carried out at a cooperating company with which you sign a study contract.
Because of that it takes discipline, self-organisation and strong motivation. If you succeed, you graduate with the same degree as regular students — but with the added value of industry experience and employability from day one plus additional credit points for your practical experience. If you are ready to challenge yourself, join our community of motivated international students and explore how dual study at TUHH can open doors for your future career.
Requirements
Information on language proficiency and subject-specific prior knowledge and competences is available at TUHH's website. Individual requirements of the partner companies may apply - please check the job postings for more information on grades, skills and language proficiency. Please note that we cannot state company-based requirements as the recruitment process is handled by the companies directly.
Application process
Before you enroll in the dual track you need to secure a valid study contract with one of our cooperating companies. Please be aware that the application process starts early: most of our companies ask for applications one year prior to study start!
If you have successfully signed a study contract with one of our cooperating companies, an application and immatriculation at our university are mandatory. Please note that different application deadlines apply for national and international students. Find out more here.
Cooperating companies
A student contract for the dual study program can be signed with a cooperating company. An overview of our cooperating companies and available job postings is available here. Note: our database is presented only in German, but we do have open positions for international students (e.g. check for english study programs).
Further information and FAQs
The Section Incoming of the Department International Affairs is a service and contact point for international students. Take advantage of their international programs, housing advice service, language classes and network.
FAQs
How should I apply for the studies, via the company's career portal or via the university's online application form?
Both! You need to sign a study contract with a cooperating company and you are required to apply through TUHH's application services.
Do you have programs taught completely in English?
Is it possible to begin the dual study track in the second year of the program, rather than from the very beginning?
No, but you can start within the first or second semester. However, we do not recommend this option. Moreover, most companies recruit only in advance.
What do I have to consider before/after my arrival?
There might be some paper work and administrative issues to take care of. Please check TUHH's welcoming pages to learn more.
Will I get a salary during the dual study program? How much?
Yes, all partner companies pay a monthly salary to their students (12 months per year). This is important for you in order to focus on the study program. The exact amount depends on your prior education, branch of the company and your year of study. Usually, salary ranges from 1.000 - 1.200 EUR per month (non-binding).
Can you assist me with the application (process)?
No. The application is part of the selection process. Hence, you should be able to do it on your own. Anyhow, we would not be able to answer company-specific questions.
I am not sure if I can work/study as a dual student. Where do I get more information?
Please understand that we cannot provide individual support on issues related to visa, work permit or study contracts. For general information you can consult www.study-in-germany.com or the Federal Foreign Office.
